Exposing Club Intrawest: The Purpose of this Blog

I am a sucker!

There. I said it. Why would I say that? Because I am also a Club Intrawest member. The two are inseparable. The purpose of this blog is to slowly expose what Club Intrawest does to people with their deceptive and fraudulent (in my personal opinion) business practices. I can state this and they cannot order me to take this down because it is my truth.

As with all writing though, in an attempt to remain as unbiased as possible, I will refrain from writing when I am angry. The next post will discuss how we got into the mess we are in and expose the facts about Club Intrawest and also hopefully help people understand what they are really buying into.

To begin with though, here is a piece of advice. If you still really want to be a Club Intrawest points member after reading several of the existing members statements such as those below, DO NOT PAY FULL PRICE and definitely DO NOT BUY from Intrawest direct. Our membership cost over $30,000 with taxes and extras by the time we were done. You can easily buy the same package (160 points, recurring annually) for less than 1/3 of that on the open market as they are people who are desperate to dump their points. I have seen points advertised for sale as low as $7900 for basically the same package Club Intrawest charged me $30,000 for.

Before you do buy, I would encourage all of you to read these:

Complaint Class Action Lawsuit

UPDATE:  Through a very complicated series of steps, we were able to sell it.  We netted less than $7,000 CAD.  If you think Club Intrawest is a good deal, talk to at least five current owners before you make a decision.  We were lucky to get anything out of it.  We were lied to and cheated.  Be warned.

  1. Yes, we purchased a similiar package, and assured that they would re-purchase it for cost, or increased market value - whichever greater, at any time. Received 100+ page contract at/after signing listing various properties collaterializing purchase. All B.S.
Now they tell us we have to continue to 'pay them' for the pleasure of being on their 'waiting list' to sell the shares. Absolute scam -- for a Co. that had a pretty good reputation !!!

    1. Same with us. Their resale program is a trap !!!!!! Bunch of BS. Should take them to court over this. I would sign on to a Class Action in a heartbeat. Good luck waiting to re- purchase by the club. Not going to happen in this decade.

  2. We are members as well and experiencing the EXACT difficulties and arriving at the same results. Can't book as the club is 'fully booked'> Unable to have our points bought back by Intrawest as there are hundreds of owners trying to get out of this. We were told initialy it would be fairly smooth to have our points repurchased by the CLUB but- talking with the Club Repurchase Program Reps as well as others on the list already for re- purchase - it will take OVER 20 YEARS !!!! based on the no. of people selling and the funds available towards the re- purchase program. It boggles my mind they are even alowed to sell more memberships. YES - I now being a member for 15 years - think this is a waste of our money and that it borders on being a scam ! Wish we never bought into this program !!!!! We have 156 point per year and as well were told we could perhaps get 1/4 of our initial investment back ( lets not talk about how much money was lost in paying the maintenance fees and not being able to book a room that year). This winter I did go to their sales office and when asked what I want there I said out loud - Sell My Points !!!! - they were pissed off at me but I was doing the same thing they were doing - selling points so why hustle me away from the offices and tell me I can`t come there again . Was not even alowed to post and add on the bulletin board that I had points for sale. Hey ! It is my club - isn`t it . I would be in strong favour of a Class Action Law Suit against Club Intrawest based on what we were told - shown - promissed- by their sales team and what is now actually reality. I WAT OUT of the Club and am TRAPPED by them. Willing to just walk away from this nightmare. ( on the flip side - if I was retired and could go where ever and when ever I wanted than the Club MAY be of value - but then again you are LOCKED into ownership - and resort fees for the rest of your life as you can barely give these points away. )
The Club Intrawest Property is beautiful but the Membership is a nightmare not worthy of ANY investment . we are so disappointed - frustrated over this for the past 3 years just thinking about what the Club did to us makes my blood boil. Who wants some cheep poinst - Im selling!

    2. Although Club Intrawest is" beautiful" we found a place that is truly beautiful. Then again you have to be very careful and we bought a small package with them and have not regretted it. If we had seen it first we would not of ended up with Intrawest. At the time we though Intrawest was beautiful but has nothing ion comparison. We still use of ownership with "Pueblo Bonito" and they are in Mexico (Cabo-Mazatlan-plus more). They have beauty and security. However we learned how to also use RCi to "bank" and get really good deals between the two.
I say this as we initially got caught by Intrawest "beauty" then found it was nothing.

    3. We have the same experience, paid 30K in full, and cannot sell or even give this away, and locked in for ridiculous fees which I am not going to pay anymore.

  3. Mike:

They do not buy back points... EVER!!! They will lie and tell you that but all the sales people know the truth. Club Intrawest has not purchased points back from any customer. That is not their business. Their business is lying to you and having you buy their points.

Yes, sadly, you are locked. You cannot even walk away from it. You are trapped. You and many others.

They are laughing at us. They laughed at me and they are likely laughing at you as we were both stupid enough to buy their points.

If you decide on a class action law suit, count me in. Me and thousands of others. I have talked to countless individuals who are in the same boat.

    We all got ripped off.

Sorry to hear and I hope you can find a way out.

  4. I finally found this site and my husband and I have been tearing our hair out over the business practices at Intrawest. Looks like we are have lost a great deal of money to them and it makes one even more disgusted when one realizes that we all trusted Intrawest and it is such a scam.
If anyone is interested in starting a Class Action Lawsuit, please email me asap and we can all create a game plan----first finding a lawyer to take this on. My email is nanette.m.lloyd@gmail.com--thanks

  6. Count me in, if anyone wants to file a Class Action Lawsuit. I'm a new victim. Me and my wife purchased 125 points last Feb. 14th, gave 10% down payment, with the assurance from the salesman that we can cancel anytime as long as we have not yet started paying the remaining 90% which will take effect May 1st that's why we signed the contract. After 14days, we decided to cancel it but they said our 7 days cancellation period is over as per contract we signed. They screwed us up and fall under their bait. Tried to contact the Salesman but responding at all and they directed to me with their member enrollment rep. Do some research first before considering member of club intrawest.

  7. I have consulted a lawyer and if they will not return my down payment I will sue them in Small Claims Court in Vancouver.

    ReplyDelete
  8. What happens if you stop paying the yearly fees?

    ReplyDelete
  9. @Richard - You need to check your contract. I have heard that they will pursue you and threaten legal action, yet do not know of any such incidents. From what I have seen, you have signed the contract and they view it that you owe the fees or the consequences as specified in the original contract.

DISCLAIMER: This is third hand information. You will need to check with your own lawyer to determine the outcome. I am not a lawyer, nor do I represent Intrawest.

  10. Very sad to read all of these comments! This too has been our experience, as members/owners for the past 10 years. Count us in if we can garner enough support for a class action suit. We personally know at least 8 other owners that would participate.
This has been a sickening experience, rooted in pure deception! So is the election of the BOD, who are hand picked by Intrawest and appropriate all of their proxies to the same tired people, namely Robert Reyes, James Orr and the few others. It's all just a total, well planned SCAM!

  14. I am highly interested in a class action law suit against Club Intrawest. They clearly misrepresent that the rediculously high price of the membership is an "investment" and that it is easy to re-sell. Being a Club Intrawest owner is a liability - with exhorbitant annual dues which equate to a regular priced vacation! Club Intrawest demands the right of first refusal to re-purchase points from its members. Prospective buyers are put off by this as they could spend many hours of their time negotiating and completing paperwork with a notary only to find that the deal could very well fall through. I own 360 points which cost over $60,000.00. I have been trying to sell them for 4 years on Sellmytimesharenow.com, recommended by Club Intrawest, which cost $500 to advertise the sale and I have dropped the price to $18,000.00 and still there hasn't been one interested purchaser in four years! I have dropped the price to $50.00 per point and the price that Club Intrawest is charging currently is over $200.00 per point. And still there are no buyers. I cannot afford the annual dues anymore as I do not have permanent employment. Now I am receiving threatening letters. They have my investment and my membership is suspended and I can't even sell it! If anyone knows of a class action that I can join then please contact me at fedupwithintrawest@gmail.com. Thank you, Anne

    1. We tried to do the same thing for our 180 points. Waste of $500. We offered our points for $7000 and nothing. The only offer we got was someone willing to take our points for nothing if we paid the transfer fees. See my other comment about a pending sale to Diamond Resorts Int'l (DRI) Terrible reputation for misleading sales practices, unavailability of properties to book, increasing maintenance fees and imposing special assessments. They've been sued in the past and there is a class action lawsuit currently in process

    2. If you check out Intrawest listings on sellmytimesharenow.com you will see that there is over 400 Intrawest memberships for sale. And this was a site suggested by Intrawest HO. Total scam. I suspect Intrawest was getting a kickback on the listing fees.
